SACMI Continua+: The Technology Behind Our Large-Format Slabs

A look at the Italian press technology — and the European raw materials — that make our large-format porcelain and sintered stone possible.

SACMI Continua+: The Technology Behind Our Large-Format Slabs

Large-format slabs look simple in a showroom — a single, seamless surface — but producing one at consistent thickness and density across a couple of square metres is a genuinely difficult manufacturing problem. It's why our large-format lines run on SACMI Continua+ and Lamgea press technology, both Italian-engineered systems built specifically for continuous, high-precision slab production.

Unlike traditional hydraulic presses that compact a fixed-size charge in a single stroke, continuous compaction technology builds up and presses material along a moving belt, which is what makes genuinely large, uniform slabs possible without the density variation that shows up as warping or micro-cracking later. It's the same category of technology used by leading Italian slab producers — installed and run on our own factory floor in Morbi.

World-class output starts with world-class inputs — which is why our frits, inks and glazes come from the same European suppliers Italian manufacturers trust.

Equipment is only half the story. Our surfaces are finished using frits, inks and specialty materials sourced from established European suppliers including Torrecid, Vidres and Smalticeram — the same names behind much of the premium ceramic surface production coming out of Italy and Spain. That combination of Italian press technology and European surface materials is a deliberate choice, not a marketing line: it's how a factory in Gujarat produces slabs that hold their own against European large-format porcelain on colour depth, edge definition and finish consistency.

For architects and importers, the practical upshot is straightforward — large-format specification no longer means choosing between Indian pricing and European quality. Our production line was built specifically to remove that trade-off.
